President's Letter



Hi EWI Tulsa Chapter!

We did it… our first remote Board Installation!  Thank you again to Dana Nichols, Felicia Senter, Judy Russell, and Trish Richey for such a surprising and fun evening!
I feel very blessed to have a board who will represent the 2020-2021 theme of “Bring Your Smile” (by the way, they already did this way before they agreed to serve).  As we start a new year, I would like to say that when you “Bring Your Smile” to your daily routine, it can be a positive change in attitude and uplifting to others. I hope your every day begins with a SMILE!  We plan to distribute the cute smiley sponge to everyone at our first “In Person” meeting as a reminder of this year’s theme.

We have elected to assist A New Leaf during the Christmas Holiday for our non-profit philanthropy.  For November’s meeting we will hear from Lindsey Stewart and quite possibly a client from A New Leaf to learn more about their organization, the services they provide to those with mental and/or physical challenges and how this not only affects their way of life but also, impacts our community.

We will also be encouraging EWI members to sign-up to serve on the various committees. I truly believe this is the best way to get involved, get to know other members on a more personal level and to grow both individually and professionally. If you miss our monthly meeting on November 12th, no worries, a committee chair will be reaching out to you! Please consider where you would like to serve and then volunteer. You can either contact the committee chair or me, we would love to hear from you as well.

Featured Guest: Lindsey Stewart - A New Leaf. A New Leaf is a nonprofit organization on a mission to provide individuals with developmental disabilities (including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder) with vocational and residential services to increase their independence and individual choices.

We are hosting a Pizza Party for A New Leaf (ANL) and their Clients of 124+, on December 17th.  Our Chapter will be collecting funds through December 10th, the goal is $1,300.00.  This will fund a holiday pizza party for everyone and provide cloth masks with ANL & EWI logo’s.  Look for a Survey with more information and sponsorships &/or donation opportunities.

Assertive women have donned many labels for expressing themselves effectively and standing up for their point of view, while simultaneously respecting the rights and beliefs of others. We take the high road in this conversation and discuss the positive effect of assertive behavior on yourself and others who are watching your communication style.
Coffee Connect 

Our first Coffee Connect is with Felicia Senter, Tulsa Tech, Immediate Past Corporate President EWI

Hi, Felicia! Thank you for agreeing to answer a few questions. I don’t know if you are a coffee drinker, but I’m drinking coffee. If we were going to meet at a coffee shop, tell me where would we meet and what would you order?  Elizabeth, I am not a big coffee drinker, so if we were meeting for coffee, I would invite you to Café Felice and we would enjoy a Mocha Latte’ with cinnamon and whipped crème. 

The past year has caused epic changes in how we work and live, what has been the biggest challenge for you?  My biggest challenge during this pandemic has been not being able to see my mother.   

What has been a change that has been positive that’s going to be a part of your life moving forward?  Selfcare and taking time for myself.   

What is your favorite book and why? Tumbling by Diane McKinney-Whetstone.  It’s a story of love, family ties and how to survive. 

What, if anything, can you tell us about the book you are writing? I am writing a book on being a caregiver. It’s a book of inspiration.  Dedicated to my mother.

Favorite quote? I have two and could not pick, so here they are,  

"I asked God for all things, so that I might enjoy life, he gave me life so that I can enjoy all things”. 

“I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Maya Angelou.   

What is your idea of perfect happiness? I am still looking for perfect happiness.  Things that make me smile and bring happiness is giving to others and my wonderful family.
