President's Letter

Greetings Tulsa Chapter!

I recently returned from a trip to visit my kids in South Dakota.  The countryside was beautiful with acres upon acres of corn and soybean fields. My time with my kids was much needed.  It is hard to believe we are nearing the end of summer and fast approaching Labor Day!  My grass and shrubs have benefitted from our July rainfall.

It is an exciting time in the life of our Chapter.  We will soon usher in a new Chapter Board.  Reta is well underway in her planning for the year.  I encourage all members to commit to serving on one of the committees.  Committee service is one of the best ways to get the most out of your membership and build friendships along the way.
LCAM is right around the corner. And, it’s FREE! Please plan to attend as we celebrate and honor the service of Felicia Senter as our Corporate President. It will be held on September 18th & 19th. Soon, details will be posted on myEWI and the Corporate Connect.

In August, Corporate is offering:
  • Professional Development Webinar is Tuesday, August 4, 2020, 2:00 pm CT – Goal Planning in a Changing Lane, Presenter Samantha Lane
  • EWI Corporate Virtual Happy Hour is Tuesday, August 18, 2020 - 6:00 p.m. CT
We are still collecting recipes for our Pandemic Cookbook.  If you have not sent a few of your favorite recipes, there is still time.  Email your favorites to slmiller2@saintfrancis.com.  One of my recipes was the Grand Prize Winner at the National Peanut Festival!  I’ll give you a hint.  It tastes like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup! This is your chance to go down in history.

August’s meeting will be a Zoom meeting. Our guest speaker will be Greg Shinn with the Mental Health Association of Oklahoma.  Please plan to attend. While we cannot meet in-person, I would like to see everyone on screen.

Over the course of the year, Eva, along with others, have donated many of our coveted door prizes at our monthly meetings.  If you would like to contribute a door prize, please contact either Reta at rhallam@LDKerns.com or Trish at Trish.Richey@hpinc.com.

I look forward to seeing you on Zoom soon!  Meanwhile, be safe and I will leave you with this quote:

“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference” ~ Winston Churchill.

Respectfully yours,

Trish

July Meeting Highlights

At July's meeting we had special guest speaker, retired Detective Sergeant Dave Walker, who spoke on Tulsa's current police climate and events.
Comments on Meeting:
  • During these uncertain times "into the unknown" there is no playbook for creating a new norm. I commend Trish Richey for being the "genie out of the bottle" who has stepped up as EWI President with talent supported by her board members to organize and make the most out of virtual meetings that have been constructive, informative as with our guest speaker Retired Detective Sgt. Dave Walker this evening, and given a positive impact on EWI Tulsa.
  • It was very nice to have scholarship recipients join us...and to participate. Appreciated remarks from Sgt. Dave Walker and his years of service to TPD and the Tulsa community.
  • I loved that ASIST and EWISP winners joined. I wish we had them talk more. Excited about the incoming board, fabulous fresh faces with our seasoned gals!
What suggestions do you have for Program ideas as we prepare to start in-person meetings?:
  • Timely information dealing with challenging times.
  • I really enjoyed hearing the perspective of the retired officer. Thank you for bringing him to speak with us.
  • I would love an in-person meeting, but want I understand the health and welfare of the members is most important at this time.
