President's Letter

Greetings EWI Ladies!

I hope this letter finds everyone well.

Our journey this month has been a difficult one around the Eastern Oklahoma area.  I am praying that all of our members and their families are safe from the storms and floods and that they continue to be.

Our Scholarship Banquet was very inspiring.  A big thank you to the BCDP committee and the Programs Committee for making the night just perfect.  Also, thank you to Tulsa Tech for the use of their facilities!  I have to say – I actually got goose bumps listening to the interviews of all our winners.  It makes me so happy to know that we are changing the lives of these wonderful people.  You all should be proud!

Once again, don’t forget to ask your executive about attending LCAM this year.  It is such a special year for the Tulsa Chapter with our own sister, Felicia Senter, being installed as Corporate President.  This year’s LCAM is being held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 19 – 21.  The early registration discount is over on June 14th, so get your registration in soon! If you need more information for your executives, please let me know.  Also, please let me know if you have already registered.  I want to have a list of all of us that are going!

I look forward to seeing you all in June.  Our meeting is a Firm Night, sponsored by Moore Funeral Home.  Be sure to RSVP by Friday June 7th!

Blessings!  And enjoy your Journey!  See you in June!

Lisa Stansill

May Monthly Meeting Highlights
EWISP 2019 winners (left to right): Abigail Bellatti, Amy Nguyen, and Natalie Simon pictured with Lisa Stansill, RB American and Roberta Montgomery, Helmerich & Payne, Inc.
Sheila Sayne, Neuens Mitchell Bonds and Lisa Stansill, RB American with ASSIST winner Nicole Tarver
Enjoying hearing from our speaker, Cara Hair, VP Corporate Services and Chief Legal & Compliance Officer with Helmerich & Payne, Inc.
Presentation/Entertainment:
  • Had a hard time seeing the speaker because of the monitor that was in the way. She was a very good speaker.
  • I love how she personalized her story and applied it to EWI as well as the scholarships recipients.
  • Engaged, interesting, personal, just long enough, but could easily have listened longer!
Catering:
  • The servers were wonderful and very accommodating. The food was great!
  • The food was not very hot. The food tasted good. They had good help.
  • Vegetables were overcooked and soggy. I thought the meal was average at best.
Venue:
  • I could see and hear the speaker easily. The room was a great temp and we had plenty of room to socialize.
  • However, the space seemed a bit large for the amount of people who attended. I think I remember at least one unoccupied table. The sound system was good.
  • The sound system was very good and so was the screen/projector. I didn't notice, but is there an elevator available for access.

Announcements

Flowers were sent in Memory of Virgil Shelton who left us in April of this year.
The note below is from his wife, June Shelton.

"The flowers sent in memory of my husband were lovely.  The family appreciates the love and support shown to us from the Tulsa EWI Chapter. Thank you for remembering a life well spent.

Virgil always loved and appreciated the ladies.  He traveled with us many times to Annual Meetings and supported me over the years.

I came into the Chapter in 1977.  The friendships made by both of us have been the most meaning full times in our lives.

EWI gives women the chance to mature and develop skills.

My best to all of you and hope the Chapter stays as one of the strongest in the whole of the organization.

June Ellen Shelton"

Etiquette Tips
for the Modern Woman

This month we will explore some of the more modern etiquette rules from “24 Etiquette Rules Every Lady Must Know”.

  • If you need to leave a party or gathering early, take your host/hostess aside and let them know that you are leaving.  Avoid saying goodbye to all the other guests as your departure might be taken as a cue that it's time for them to leave as well.
  • When guests arrive at your home for the first time, show them where the bathroom is in case they need to freshen up.
  • Never lay out the contents of your purse in a public place, including your desk or workstation in the office.
  • When in a pulbic place, if you need to touch up your makeup or brush your hair, do it in the ladies’ room and never at the table.  However, it is okay to touch up your lipstick at the table after dining in a restaurant.
  • Remember to use etiquette rules at home, too.  Never shout to someone from another room.
  • When sitting in a low chair or sofa, remember to not cross your legs.  Either hold your knees together and lean them to the side or simply cross one foot over the other at the ankles.
  • When getting into a car, never “step” into it.  Instead sit on the edge of the seat and then pull your legs in after being seated.  When you get out of the car, put your feet on the road first and simply stand up.

Tech Tips!
Schedule Emails to be Sent Later on Gmail

Scheduling a Gmail message to be sent later is as easy as selecting the Schedule send option.

Step 1: Select the down arrow next to Send and choose Schedule send. You can do this from any compose box, whether you’re writing a new email, replying to one, or forwarding the message.

Step 2: Pick one of the suggested times or select Pick date & time to customize when the email should go out. You can choose any date on the calendar and optionally define the exact time that the email should be delivered on that day.

Step 3: Press Schedule send to queue the email for sending.

Gmail stores not-yet-sent emails in the Scheduled folder, which you can access from the left pane just under the “Sent” folder. The date the email will be sent is shown on the far right, but you can open the email and read the line at the very bottom of the message to see the exact date and time.
