EWI OF TULSA 2021-2022 PRESIDENT
____________________________________
Hello Tulsa Chapter.

May is here and hello Spring!  I love seeing all the beautiful flowers and plants in bloom around Tulsa.  We had a wonderful April chapter meeting with speaker Aaron Fulkerson of Schnake Turnbo Frank.  His interactive exercise guided us to quickly pare down a list of 20 personal and professional priorities to where only the top three priorities remained.  This exercise enforced his thought-provoking message “if everything is a priority, then nothing is a priority.”  Each attendee received a beautiful plant from Janis and Mark Cohlmia of Tropical Plant Design. I placed mine on my office desk at TDW to enjoy while I’m at work.  Thank you for your generosity, Janis and Mark.  Looking forward, we have the following programming scheduled:
  • EWI After Hours is coming soon!  Be watching for the date and location notice.
  • Our Annual Scholarship Banquet will be held May 12th at the Downtown DoubleTree Hotel.  I look forward to seeing you at this inspirational event.
  • Our Executive of the Year program will be held August 11th and will be hosted by our member firm Montereau.  Nominations are still underway but the deadline for submissions is May 4th.  Click here to submit your nominations:  https://forms.gle/7A48EbeakfyhRent5.
  • EWI’s Leadership Conference and Annual Meeting (“LCAM”) will be held September 14-16th in Corpus Christi, Texas.  I hope you will make plans to attend LCAM this year, especially since it will be held “next door” in Texas.  Register before June 30th to receive an early bird registration discount of $100.
Lastly, I want to leave you with a few thoughts about growing and sustaining our chapter membership for future generations.  Membership is vital to EWI.  Please consider adding an additional representative to your firm’s membership.  Also, do you know of any firms that would be good prospects to recruit for our chapter?  Please contact our Membership Directors Tonya Solomon and Gloria McQuade to discuss further.  Together we can do great things.

Please share your monthly Connect newsletters and chapter meeting notices with your Executive.  This ensures they have information about our chapter meetings, professional development, and the links to our social media sites.  I look forward to seeing you at our May chapter meeting.

Together we can do great things!

Member Spotlight

Meet Tamara Conner, Executive Assistant to the Chief Financial Officer at ONEOK

Did you know…?  ONEOK was originally founded in 1906 as an intrastate natural gas pipeline business in Oklahoma.  Dennis T. Flynn and Charles Ames started a new company with Barnsdall and Braden to supply natural gas to Oklahoma Gas & Electric. The new enterprise, called Oklahoma Natural Gas Company (ONG), was officially established on October 12, 1906, with headquarters in Oklahoma City.  Today ONEOK is one of the nation's premier energy companies involved in the natural gas and natural gas liquids businesses. Our business segments provide safe, reliable energy and services to our diverse customers.

ONEOK joined EWI of Tulsa in 1958.

I am so happy to be a part of EWI and representing a firm with such deep roots.  I joined ONEOK 5 years ago in May of 2017.  It had been a desire of mine to work at ONEOK for over 10 years before I “landed” the job.  Along with landing my dream employer, I was thrilled to find out they had a long history with EWI of Tulsa.

A few fun facts about me:

I have more than 20 years of experience as an Executive Assistant for corporate-level executives

I am a worship leader at my church and play the piano

I will be graduating in May 2023 from OU with a bachelor’s in organizational leadership

My oldest son is a Marine

I have 3 wonderful adult children, Caleb, Hannah, & Andrew

I also have 3 FANTASTIC AND BEAUTIFUL grandkids, Violette (3 in June), Evelyn (3 in October), & Kylian (1 in June)

I developed a love for indoor plants when I became an empty nester (I needed something to dote on).

During COVID I began a torrid love affair with landscaping my home and planting beautiful flowers

On the weekends you will find me camped out by the lake in our fifth wheel.

I have enjoyed serving as this year’s President-Elect and look forward to leading our Chapter in the next year!  Come serve with me!

The Rose District, in partnership with Vega & Treviño Consultants and Supermercados Morelos, is bringing back its Cinco de Mayo Fiesta! Come join us Saturday, May 7 for a celebration of Hispanic culture. There will be authentic Mexican food, dancing, music, shopping, and more!

Mark your calendars for a day full of family fun!

The City of Broken Arrow seeks to positively impact the community at large by ensuring they are purposeful and authentic in vendor and entertainment inclusion of the Rose District’s 5 de Mayo Fiesta, by purposefully including Oklahoma’s fastest-growing minority, the Hispanic community. To achieve this, Vega & Treviño Consulting have been brought on to help with obtaining vendors, entertainment acts, and food options rooted directly in the Hispanic community.

Start with the flowers ...

Nothing says I love you, mom like waking up to a beautiful bouquet of flowers first thing in the morning. Whether she likes roses, orchids, or tulips, Tulsa flower shops have something unique in store. Find out what she likes and then head over to one of these local florists to pick up something beautiful.

Next, the gift ...

Find the perfect gift to complement the flowers. Tulsa’s local gift stores each offer something precious and unique. Whether mother prefers a chic gift or a funny one, these shops will most certainly have something that she’ll love.

Then, the brunch ...

Take her somewhere unexpected this Mother’s Day. Tulsa has no shortage of brunch options – whether she prefers something tasteful & elegant or casual & friendly. From omelets to eggs benedict, here are some Tulsa brunch spots that will have mom pleasantly surprised.
Lastly, the afternoon venture.

Close out the day with a family-friendly Tulsa venture. There are dozens of things to see, places to explore, and experiences to have within the city. Take advantage of the beautiful outdoor weather in the park, or head to one of Tulsa’s well-known points of interest.
