A Letter From Our President

I have always heard that time flies when you are having fun.  This year has flown by – it seems like only last month we were having the Installation Ceremony and creating our plan for the year.  In four months, we will install a new Board of Directors and watch them Create their Own Path within EWI.  This position has afforded me the opportunity to represent the Tulsa Chapter and promote my member firm in speaking engagements, volunteerism, and by providing customer service training to fellow EWI representatives from other chapters and states.  I am appreciative for the chance to learn, grown, and showcase my talents in EWI.

We have an awesome chapter with smart, engaged, hardworking and artistic members.  This is a very unique group and I am proud to be your President.  I love the no compete clause – this allows us to bring in the best of the best, while helping each other with the connections we make, communities we impact, and careers we are able to promote.

The people we surround ourselves with raise or lower our standards.  They either help us to become the best version of ourselves or encourage us to become lesser versions of ourselves.  We become like our friends.  No woman becomes great on her own and no man becomes great on his own.  The people around them help to make them great.  We all need people in our lives that raise our standards, remind us of our essential purpose, and challenge us to become the best version of ourselves.

Never forget the veterans and all active military personnel.  There are several members of our chapter who have husbands, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, fathers, nieces and nephews who are active military or retired military.  I am thankful for their service in protecting this great country and to the families that hold it all together in their absence.  I thank you for your unselfish sacrifice.  My late brother was an officer in the United States Navy and served in Desert Storm.

"Good job!! Best food in a while."

"I enjoyed the food very much. The wait staff was courteous and efficient. The speaker was also very good."

"I enjoyed experiencing a new restaurant!"

"A little noisy and a bit crowded."

Too far south. Traffic was awful. Needed another beverage option other than wine and water."

"It would have been nice to have a little more choices for food."

1st Place ASIST winner Kimberly Cummings was unable to attend the EWISP/ASIST banquet last month, but sent the following note to the Chapter.

"Thank you and all the powerful women of EWI for the wonderful financial support for my continued education. Truly, I am humbled and inspired by such generosity.

"Again, thank you to all the encouraging and successful women who made this possible."

With immense gratitude,

School Recipient:  Hawthorne Elementary
1105 East 33rd Street North

Principal:  Dr. Estella Bitson
School Info:   Pre-K-6th grade
     Approximately 350 Students   |    20 Teachers

EWI of Tulsa Members:  Reading Rally 2016 will take place on September 30th this year.  Our recipient school will be Hawthorne Elementary.  Our goal is to allow each Hawthorne Elementary student to select a book to take home as well as supply each classroom with books to enhance their individual classroom libraries.
The Reading Rally Committee is excited to be working on this event and we are working on getting everything coordinated.  As we work with the school principal Dr. Estella Bitson, we wanted to make our Tulsa members aware that we will need their help to make this year’s event a success.  Although we get a small budget from our EWI Chapter, donations of additional monies, books, and school supplies will be needed from our members.
Besides the books, the school has a small wish list for items they use throughout the year like copy paper and sets of erasable markers for the students to use on their individual whiteboards, as well as fun seasonal wall decorations.  At our August 11th meeting we will collect your donations, but do not hesitate to contact me if you wish to provide items earlier than that, or if you have additional questions.
Thank you in advance for your help and dedication to our young leaders of tomorrow!

Reading Rally Chair

Note from Debbie Ash:   It's that time to begin gathering willing participants to walk with me in the Walk to End Alzheimer's annual walk on Saturday, October 22, 2016.  The name of our team is "EWI Memory Makers" and the Walk will be held at Guthrie Green in downtown Tulsa.  More info can be found on my Walk page @ http://act.alz.org/goto/dash  ("dash" refers to Debbie Ash).  I'm looking for teammates to donate and walk with me, either virtually or in person.  We hope to raise awareness and funds in the fight against the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me at dash@alz.org or give me a call at 918-392-5024.
